THE POLITICS OF SCHOLARLY GENTLEMEN BY DONALD V. KURTZ (HARDCOVER)

Intrigue and conspiracy frame this dramatic retelling of Pune University’s political infighting from 1949 to 1995. A premier Indian university located in the state of Maharashtra, the college traditionally has been under the control of the Brahmans, which make up fewer than 5% of the total population. This history details how a number of political leaders representing different caste communities and interests vied to change this disproportionate ruling dynamic and how the university’s problems reflect the greater social inequality between Brahmans and Marathas in Maharashtra.
