Dynamics of Tribal Economy in India

By Dr. Devoji Gugulothu

Dynamics of Tribal Economy in India examines the economic life, livelihoods, and changing socio-economic conditions of tribal communities in India. The book explores the diverse economic systems that have developed within tribal societies and considers the ways in which historical, social, institutional, and developmental processes have influenced their livelihoods.

The study focuses on important dimensions of the tribal economy, including agriculture, forest-based livelihoods, traditional occupations, natural-resource use, employment, markets, poverty, migration, and rural development. It also considers the effects of modernization, industrialization, infrastructure development, commercialization, and changing patterns of resource ownership on tribal communities.

Particular attention is given to the challenges associated with economic marginalization, displacement, limited access to markets and institutions, livelihood insecurity, and uneven development, while also highlighting the importance of indigenous knowledge, community resources, and sustainable livelihood practices.

The book provides a multidisciplinary perspective that connects economics with tribal studies, sociology, development studies, public policy, and rural development. It is intended for students, researchers, teachers, policymakers, and practitioners interested in the economic conditions and development of tribal communities in India.

By bringing together economic and social perspectives, Dynamics of Tribal Economy in India offers a useful framework for understanding the changing nature of tribal livelihoods and the broader issues surrounding inclusive and sustainable development.
